Revo-F Servicing
Tools Required
Torque wrench, 6mm hex bit, 8mm hex bit, 8mm hex key, 8mm socket, small flat-blade screwdriver, soft mallet, grease, Isopropyl solvent.
Disassembly and Bearing Removal
- Initially, leave the pedal attached to the bike, to aid axle removal.
- Clean the exterior surface of the pedal.
- Using a 6mm hex bit, remove the pedal end cap. Using the small flat-blade screwdriver, remove the O-ring from the recess in the cap.
- Using an 8mm socket, remove the internal retaining nut.
Left pedals use a standard thread, so rotate counter-clockwise to remove.
Right pedals uses a reverse thread, so rotate clockwise to remove. - Remove the pedal body from the axle by holding the pedal body and pulling away from the bike. This may take some force, so we advise wearing gloves to avoid injury from the pedal pins.
- Follow “Preparation” section to remove the axles from the crank
- Remove the snap ring from the axle. Push against the snap ring to stop it from rotating. Use a small, flat-blade screwdriver in the snap ring groove and lift one end of the snap ring out. Follow the groove around the axle to remove. Slide the snap ring and Igus bushing off.
- Remove the three bearings from inside the pedal body by inserting the long end of the 8mm hex key from the inboard side of the pedal. Place the outboard side of the pedal on a wooden surface and using the soft mallet strike the end of the hex key to knock the bearings out of the pedal body.
- Using the small flat-blade screwdriver, carefully remove the main seal from the inboard side of the pedal, being careful not to mark the inside of the pedal body.
- Clean the axle and inside the pedal bore, preferably with isopropyl solvent.
Bearing Replacement and Reassembly
- Lightly grease the external surfaces of a new, unused main seal (do not reuse the old seal) and install it onto the axle using a gentle rotating motion. Ensure the correct orientation with the lip seal going on first.
- Grease the pedal axle bushing surface and install the new Igus bushing onto the axle. The square end of the bush against the seal and the tapered end at the snap ring groove. Grease the outer surface of the Igus bush to aid installation into the pedal body.
- Install a new, unused snap ring (do not reuse the old snap ring) by sliding along the axle until it clicks into the snap ring groove. Ensure it is fully seated into the groove around the full circumference.
- Lightly grease the external surfaces and threads of the axle.
- Slide the axle into the inboard side of the pedal body. The grooved axle is for the left pedal and plain for the right pedal. Press very hard to ensure the bush is fully seated. A hard stop will be felt when fully seated.
- Lightly grease the surfaces of the new bearings. Install the two smaller bearings onto the axle. Thread the 8mm retaining nut and tighten it to press the small bearings into place. For the left pedal, use the silver retaining nut. This is a standard thread, so rotate clockwise to install.
For the right pedal, use the black retaining nut. This is a reverse thread, so rotate counter-clockwise to install.
The 8mm hex key can be used in the end of the axle, to stop it from rotating. A hard stop will be felt when the bearings are fully seated. - Remove the retaining nut and then place the larger bearing onto the axle. Insert the end cap and tighten it to press the bearing into place. A hard stop will be felt when it is fully seated.
- Remove the end cap and install the 8mm nut, ensuring you have the correct side nut.
For the left pedal, use the silver retaining nut. This is a standard thread, so rotate clockwise to install.
For the right pedal, use the black retaining nut. This is a reverse thread, so rotate counter-clockwise to install. - Using the 8mm socket on your torque wrench tighten the retaining nut to 5Nm.
- Lightly grease the O-ring and install it into the end cap recess.
- Grease the threads of the end cap and reinstall using the 6mm hex bit in your torque wrench. Tighten to 4Nm.
- Reinstall the pedals following the “Installation” section of these instructions.
